Esox lucious, pike is a species of carnivorous predator ESOC Esociformes Actinopterygii, home, Freshwater, belonging to the family of Esocidae.

This is a Holarctic species, meaning that occurs worldwide in North, or Arctic waters. In North America in the Atlantic, Arctic, Pacific, Great Lakes and Mississippi River basins from Labrador to Alaska and southern Pennsylvania, Missouri y Nebraska, U.S.. In northern Eurasia, pike are from France to eastern Siberia and south to northern Italy. 

Color varies with habitat – back is usually green-brown, the color changes to lighter shades closer to white belly. The jaws are equipped with specialized teeth, like the tongue and gill arches. Pike has between 110 Y 130 small scales along the lateral line.

The average size lies between about 50 cm. Y 1 metro. Additional copies of up to five feet and weighing up 25 kg . The maximum size mentioned above is usually only achieved by the female, the male does not reach more than 90 cm.cm

 Habitat and status in Spain

 The pike is a fish habitat strong and likes to be near the edge in running water, lakes and ponds. Prefers the edges with thatch and other potential hiding,as logs, roots, rocks, bridges, vegetation… You need good water quality to thrive, and fresh water, stable level of water, grazing fish abundance and abundance of vegetation.

It is found in most of the Iberian Peninsula, except Galicia, more abundant in the reservoirs Júcar, rivers and Castilian-Leonese Extremadura.  BEHAVIOR

Pike feed on fish of all SPECIES and crabs; fry can eat their own species. Frogs, birds and small mammals also belong to the spectrum of prey. In rare cases have been adult birds found in the digestive. Heinrich Engler described an extraordinary case in his monograph: only one pike 30 cm had tried to swallow an adult male of a species of waterfowl that had a length of 35 cm. The two animals, dead, were found at a distance of 20 m water, the bird with the head and neck into the mouth of the pike. Obviously, the bird had been moved to the mainland before the two animals drowned there.
